Introducing the MPRC GE 7FDL Water Pump Rebuild Kit

With OEM lead times continuing to create challenges for locomotive maintenance operations, MPRC developed a complete rebuild solution focused on quality, reliability, and availability. The kit provides rebuilders with the critical components needed for a consistent water pump overhaul, all from a single source.

Premium Components Built for Reliability

The MPRC 150X1069-3 rebuild kit includes:

At the heart of the kit is an antimony carbon / RB-silicon carbide mechanical seal combination, paired with HNBR boots and O-rings selected for demanding locomotive service.

Key Improvements

Mechanical Seal

A significant amount of development work went into the mechanical seal used in the MPRC rebuild kit. Our goal was to improve durability, reliability, and overall performance in demanding locomotive water pump applications.

The seal faces were selected and engineered to improve resistance to chipping and cracking caused by impact and vibration. The face combination also offers improved performance during brief periods of dry-running conditions.

The mechanical seal incorporates a specially designed HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) boot that helps the seal absorb impact and vibration. HNBR also provides strong performance in applications involving both low temperatures and sustained exposure to hot water.

A drive-pin system helps ensure shaft rotation is transferred positively and consistently to the rotating side of the seal. On the stationary side, a separate anti-rotation pin system helps keep the stationary face securely positioned, even under higher loads and extended operating conditions.

Premium Timken Bearings

MPRC partnered with Timken to provide high-quality bearings for this rebuild kit. Bearing quality is critical to maintaining proper shaft alignment and supporting long-term mechanical seal performance, making it an important part of the overall rebuild system.

Tested for Performance

As part of our validation process, a rebuilt GE 7FDL water pump using MPRC components completed a 100-hour endurance test at 1,100 RPM with no measurable or failing seepage observed, while maintaining consistent water temperatures of approximately 180°F.

This testing supports our goal of providing rebuilders with a dependable alternative designed to help reduce premature leakage, improve rebuild consistency, and minimize locomotive downtime.
